The Clearest Light Strep-A cassette test is a faster and reliable diagnostic test that was specially developed to demonstrate the presence of streptococci in group A (Strep A) in throat smear samples. Group A streptococci are frequent pathogens of throat infections and other infections that can lead to serious health problems if treated in good time.

Streptococcus pyogenes is an immobile gramp-positive coccke that contains the Lancefield antigens of group A, which can cause severe infections such as pharyngitis, respiratory infections, impetigo, endocarditis, meningitis, puerperal sepsis and arthritis. If left untreated, these infections can lead to serious complications, including rheumatic fever and peritonsillar abscesses. In the conventional identification procedures for infections with streptococci in group A, viable organisms are isolated and identified with the help of techniques that take 24 to 48 hours or more. The test uses antibodies that are specifically for full cell lancefield streptococci of group A to selectively demonstrate strep a-antigens in a throat smear.
